The 1968 Road Runner cost between $2800 and $3100

Roadrunner engine options  383 V8 (1968-70),  426 V8 (1968-70)  and a mean 440 V8 (1969-70)

Based on the intermediate Plymouth Belvedere, the Roadrunner was designed for younger buyers with the desire for high performance but could not afford the GTX

Plymouth added the option for a convertible in 1969 producing only 2,128 in 1970 there were only 824

The Roadrunner came packed with a standard 383 V8 with 335 bhp. 4 speed trans, and heavy duty suspension. GTX hood bulges, taxicab interior,  a unique "Beep-Beep" horn and cartoon bird decals made it a must for many.

1970 was the introduction of the Superbird. 1,920 were produced

Roadrunner continued as a Plymouth model till 1970, finally ending up as a package option for the 1967 Volare compact.

The Superbird came stock with a 440 and TorqueFlite automatic transmission.

NASCAR had to change the rules twice to curb the dominance of the Superbird
